“Family Health Center awarded $5.3M Facility Investment Program grant to expand ability to meet the needs of Waco’s underserved” 12/9/09 – Today our CEO, Dr. Roland Goertz, was on hand at the White House as President Obama announced nearly $600 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) awards to support major construction and renovation projects at 85 community health centers nationwide and help networks of health centers adopt Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other Health Information Technology (HIT) systems. "The award is a major commitment to our patients and community. The grant supports the Center's hard work to improve its services. The grant also represents the confidence the Bureau of Primary Health Care has in our ability to serve patients." Roland Goertz, MD, MBA, AAFP President-Elect The Facility Investment Program was a very competitive grant process and we are honored to have been chosen for this award. It will be used in a number of areas. The major portion is for construction of “North Central Marketplace,” a new complex on the adjacent property formerly occupied by Providence Hospital. This will include both medical and dental clinical space with digital x-ray capabilities as well as a “healthy foods” grocery store and a fitness area for our patients and staff. The grant will also be used for a number of technology and infrastructure improvements such as computer networking, upgrades to servers, and a new telephone system for our clinic system which will provide much easier communication between sites and for our patients to contact us. These items all facilitate our ongoing efforts to provide our patients with a truly patient-centered medical home. Press Release: HRSA Website regarding the Facility Investment Program: |
